Why are Brayton cycles not used in cars?
Why are Brayton cycles not used in trains?
Why are Brayton cycles used for airplanes?
Why do combined cycles (Brayton and Rankine cycles) have a better efficiency than Brayton cycles?
I\'ve seen a previous answer for this question and one from another site and neither of them were very outright in stating their answers.
Solution
Reasons for why Brayton Cycles not used in cars :
1) Economic Consideration : To operate the Brayton Cycle we need a accurate designed turbine blades, whose cost will becomes burden to run a car
2) High Maintainence : To maintain a brayton cycle engine , we require a good skilled Technician during its operation
Reasons for why Brayton Cycles not used in Trains :
Brayton cycle engine cannot be used in trains because the there will be significant power leakage from turbine blades which greatly effects the efficiency
Reasons for why Brayton Cycles used in Airplanes
With brayton cycles engine, Airplanes can get thrust reverser facility so operation can becomes flexible by controlling pressure ratio
non rotation parts so that vibrations some what reduced
high performance thrust power output regardless its low efficiency
less
D) when brayton cycle is coupled with rankine cycle exhaust gases heat can be used to run a rankine cycle without a boiler so that efficiency can improved
