The area of the title floor is 12ft*12 ft= 144sq. ft. and the area of the carpet floor is 20ft*20ft = 400sq.ft.

If the area cof the room labeled “carpeted floor” is,

(a) 400 sq.ft, the cost of carpet is $ 2.25 *400 = $900;

(b) 144 sq.ft.,the cost of carpet is $ 2.25 *144 = $324

(c) 400-144 = 256 sq.ft, then the cost of carpet is $ 2.25 *256 = $576
