A helicopter mH 7650 kg accelerates upward at 0800 ms2 whil

A helicopter (m_H = 7650 kg) accelerates upward at 0.800 m/s^2 while lifting a 1250-kg instruction frame. What is the lift force [upward] exerted by the air on the helicopter rotors? Calculate the tension in the cable. Ignore the mass of the cable.

Solution

F (net) = F ( lift) - F (gravity)
F (lift) = (m + M) x a + (m+ M) x g

where m is 1250 kg construction frame

M is 7650 kg , weight of helicopter

= 8900 kg x ( 0.8 +9.8) m/s2

= 94340 N

b) Tension in the cable = mxg - mxa = m( g-a)

= 1250 x (9.8-0.8)

= 1125 N
