A blimp, suspended in the air at a height of 600 feet, lies directly over a line from a sports stadium to a planetarium. If the angle of depression from the blimp to the stadium is 39 degree and from the blimp to the planetarium is 23 degree, find the distance between the sports stadium and the planetarium. The distance between the sports stadium and the planetarium is feet. (Round to two decimal places as needed.)

Solution

tan 39= 600/adjacent1

adjacent1= 600/tan 39=740.94

tan 23=600/adjacent2

adjacent2=600/tan23= 1413.51 feet

Therefore distance between the two stadiums=adjacent1+ adjacent 2=740.94 +1413.51= 2154.45 feet
