Explain any new ways to change the molecule polarity of a three-atom molecule.

Solution

1. By changing the three-atom (ABC) bond angle we can change the molecule polarity. If bong angle is 120^o and all atoms have same electronegativity the resultant polarity (dipole moment) becomes zero, in this case we can change the bond angle either less than or greater than 120^o, but not exactly 120^o.

2. Replacing one or more atoms with different atoms having different electronegativities values also makes the molecule polar.

3. By placing the molecule under external electric filed or magnetic field also causes to be the molecule polar.
