Reconnaissance, is the military term for performing a preliminary survey, especially an exploratory military survey, to gain or collect information. It is an act of locating targets and developing the methods necessary to attack those targets successfully. This term is used with computer security.

Social engineering normally involves some type of manipulation or interpretion, fooling of un-suspecting users and traping them into handing over confidential data. It also involves email or other type of communication which invokes urgency, fear, or similar emotions in the victim, leading the victim to immediately reveal sensitive information, or click a malicious link.

3) Dumpster diving is a technique which is used to retrieve sensitive information that could be used to carry out an attack on a computer network. It is normally done by examining or scanning their trash. Many sensitive information line employee details, network layput diagram, contracts and bonds etc can be retrived using dumpster method and these information can further be used to carry or larger attacks to hack the total network.
