Although much of our food in the past was grown locally on land that did not require irrigation, would it still be feasible to obtain all of our essential food at an affordable price without relying on irrigated land? Explain why or why not?

Solution

In the past farmers use to practice dry farming in case there was shortage of water supplies. This dry farming used to fulfill most of our food demands in past. However in current scenario, we cannot effort to rely entirely on dry farming to supply our food demands. Population in the past was very less than what it is today and people were not as much concerned about the particularity of specific food as they are now. With lesser population, food demands were also less which were easily fulfilled by dry farming that did not require irrigation. However, with increasing population, food demands are also increasing and dry farming cannot alone fulfill this increasing demand. Therefore we have to somehow manage irrigation for lands to grow agricultural crops for meeting our feeding demands.
