The formula is C4H10O Can someone please show the structure
The formula is C4H10O. Can someone please show the structure of this compound and show how to interpret the NMR and IR spectra? Also, I did the degree of unsaturation and got zero, but it looks like there is a C=O stretch on the IR. Any help is greatly appreciated! Interpreting these graphs is killing me.
p3 C-H 4000 3000 2500 1500 1000Solution
If the formula of the compound = C4H10O
then degree of unsaturation = 0
With only one peak in the 1H NMR at 2.169 ppm
peak at 0 ppm is not counted as it is for TMS in solvent.
The possible structure for the compound would be,
(CH3)3COH
tert-butanol
The IR spectrum is taken at very concentrated conditions, it should be diluted to get the right spectrum and we may not see a carbonyl in such a case. With C4H10O formula, carbonyl presence is not possible.
