Why do cells have different mechanisms for dealing with misfolded proteins in the periplasam vs misfolded proteins in the cytoplasm?
Solution
The preiplasmic proteins are separated only by outer membrane and hence more susceptible to extracellular stresses than the cytoplasmic proteins which are compartmentalized. Hence cells have to develope mechansims to sense the stress response in faster way and respond it. That is the reason why cells have evolved with different mechanism of dealing with misfloded proteins which are periplasmic.
