Satellites in geosynchronous orbit have the desirable proper

Satellites in geosynchronous orbit have the desirable property of remaining in the same position relative to a fixed point on Earth, making them easy to locate in the sky. So, why is there a need for other types of satellites?

Solution

For different purpose different types of satellites are needed. Geosynchronous satellite is good as communication satellite but if ones want to have look at stars analyze them and map their position we need satellite which would be at much higher altitude for better vision and also that its infrared equipment in it is not affected by the heat of earth. Now for mapping of earth and studying its atmosphere you need satellite which is at lower altitiude (low earth orbit) and for GPS one needs constellation of satellites at medium earth orbit and for metrological purpose satellites are put in sun synchronous orbit.

I hope that I have cleared your doubt.
