Describe a situation in which you were involved with a project where the scope increased (called scope creep) until the project went over time and over budget. What consequences occurred as a result of this scope creep? How it did it affect the project?
Solution
it can be defined as the uncontrollable changes in project scope. this can occur when the scope of a project is not properly defined, documented, or controlled. It is generally considered harmful.
scope creep is a slippery slope and can be difficult to recover from. once you accept scope creep from one client you are setting a precedent for the rest, and although you may not have to physically hand over money as a result of scope creep, the effect is essentially the same.
recently we did a project on solar power in my college, i am the project co-ordinator. initially we assume that we should complete the project in 4 months with around 3 lakhs rupees (aproximately $5000). but the time has been increased to 6 months and the cost also incresed by 15%.
in this project the required resources are increased and because of inexperience, we failed to use the resources in a proper way. and at the end we completed it successfully but with high budget and high resources.
