As part of an emergency radio communication station, Rik sets up an “inverted-v” antenna. He stretches a copper wire from one point on the ground to a point on a tree and then back down to the ground to a forming two 30°-60°-90° triangles. If wire is fastened to the tree 34 ft above the ground, how long is the copper wire?
Solution
The height of the triangle is 34ft
Let one side of the triangle be x ( hypertenuse)
So x*cos60 = 34
X = 68
So the length of the wire is 2x = 136ft
