In the Bohr model of the hydrogen atom, the speed of the electron is approximately 2.49 × 106 m/s. Find the central force acting on the electron as it revolves in a circular orbit of radius 5.48 × 1011 m.

Solution

Central force = mAc = mv^2/R = (9.1*10^-31*(2.49*10^6)^2)/(5.48*10^-11)

= 1.02957865e-7 N or 10.2*10^-6 N
