A spherical mirror is to be used to form an image six times
A spherical mirror is to be used to form an image, six times as tall as an object, on a screen positioned 5.8 m from the mirror.
(a) Describe the type of mirror required.
The mirror is a ---Mirror Type--- convex concave mirror and it has a focal length of m.
(b) Where should the mirror be positioned relative to the object?
The object should be m in front of the mirror.
Solution
(a). The mirros is concave type.
Magnification M = 6
v / u = 6
From this image distance v = 5.8 m
Where u = object distance =?
So, u = v / 6 = 0.966 m
From this relation ( 1/ v ) + ( 1/ u ) = ( 1/ f)
( 1/ f) = 0.1724 + 1.034
= 1.206
f = 0.828 m
The image is virtual and upright
Object and image are on both sides of the mirror
