A student dissolves 29 g of goseH120 in 225 mL of a solvent

A student dissolves 2.9 g of goseH120%) in 225. mL of a solvent with a density of 0.95 g/mL. The student notices that the volume of the solvent does not change when the glucose dissolves in it Calculate the molarity and molality of the student\'s solution. Round both of your answers to 2 significant digits. molarity = 10 molality =

Solution

1)

mass of glucose = 2.9 g

moles of glucose = 2.9 / 180 = 0.01611 mol

volume = 225 mL

Molarity = moles / volume

              = 0.0161 / 0.225

Molarity = 0.072 M

2)

mass of solvent = 225 x 0.95 = 213.75 g

molality = moles / mass of solvent in kg

             = 0.0161 / 0.21375

molality = 0.075 m
