Egineering Ethics:

Consider the following case: Smith works for Jones at HONEST co. In the past, Smith did confidential work for GUILTY co., and because of this Smith knows confidential details about GUILTY co.\'s operations that would give HONEST co. an advantage if he were to disclose them. One day Jones asks Smith if he has any confidential information that would give HONEST co. an advantage over Guilty co. If you were Smith, how would you respond to Jones\' question. Is this honest? Why or why not?

Solution

1. (a) If I was in place of Smith I would have not told him anything as it would be unprofessional to uncover any confidential information of any company for you have been worked for. But instead of saying direct no to him I would have approached a more intelligent way.

I would have told him that put yourself in a place of Owner of GUILTY co. How you feel when somebody from your organisation leaked confidential information that affect your business badly. Disclosure of any confidential information of any company also leads to legal action. If I could disclose confidential information of my previous employer I can also do it for anyone and against anyone even against Honest co..

(b) To my mind non disclosing of any confidential information of the previous employee is completely honest as it shows your professionalism and your work ethics , your adherence to the rules and regulation of the company you are working for or have worked for. Non complaince of any rule badly affects your professional life so it is completely honest not to disclose the confidential infrmation.
