The input work to a paddle wheel used to a bowl of water is 5000 kJ. At the same time 2500 kJ of heat is rejected by the bowl of water. Determine the internal energy change of the system. (4700 kJ) (2000 kJ) (3600kJ) (2500kJ)

Solution

Solution :

According to first law of thermodynamics

Change in internal energy = work + heat transfer

Given heat transfer = -2500 KJ ( negative sign because heat is lost from system)

Work = 5000 KJ

Hence

Change in internal energy = 5000 -2500 = 2500 KJ

COREECT OPTION IS D
