Some realtime applications choose to use UDP instead of TCP

Some real-time applications choose to use UDP instead of TCP; why?

Solution

TCP guarantees packet delivery and thus can be considered \"reliable\" in case of packet delivery and Data Transfer, but UDP provides better Speed.

UDP is used in applications where speed is more critical than reliability. It may be better to use UDP in an application sending data from a fast acquisition where it is acceptable to lose some data points. You can also use UDP to broadcast to any machine or machines connected to the server.

A computer may send UDP packets without first establishing a connection to a recipient. The computer completes the appropriate fields in the UDP header (PCI) and forwards the data together with the header for transmission by the IP network layer.

So one more benefit of UDP,it is also used when packets are to be sent without establishing the connection.
