solve the following linear x a x2 3x1 5x7 b 5x 23x57xx1Sol

solve the following linear x (a) x/2 - 3(x-1) = 5x-7 (b) 5x -2/3(x+5)=7x-(x-1)

Solution

(a) x/2 - 3(x-1) = 5x-7

x/2 - 3x+3 = 5x-7

x/2 = 8x-10

x=2(8x-10)

x=16x -20

16x-x =20

15x =20

x =20/15

x =4/3

(b) 5x -(2/3)(x+5)=7x-(x-1)

5x -(2/3)x-((2/3)5)=7x-x+1

5x -(2/3)x -(10/3)=6x +1

6x -5x +(2/3)x=-(10/3)-1

(5/3)x=-(13/3)

x =-13/5

solve the following linear x (a) x/2 - 3(x-1) = 5x-7 (b) 5x -2/3(x+5)=7x-(x-1)Solution(a) x/2 - 3(x-1) = 5x-7 x/2 - 3x+3 = 5x-7 x/2 = 8x-10 x=2(8x-10) x=16x -20
