A technician measures the current in a circuit to be -3.4 amperes and the resistance is 4 ohms. Find the voltage.

Solution

The relationship between current (C) , resistance ( R) and the potential difference(voltage V) is defined by OHM’s law which states that the current (in amperes) flowing into the circuit is the voltage divided by resistance of the circuit i.e.   V = CR . Here, C = -5.4 amperes and r = 4 ohms so that V = -5.4*4 = -21.6 volts. The negative sign indicates that the current is flowing in the opposite direction.
