The potential as a function of position x is shown in the figure. Which statement about the electric field is true? The electric field is zero at x = 0 its magnitude is at a maximum at x = 5 cm and the field is directed to the right there. The electric field is zero at x = 5 its magnitude is at a maximum at x = 0 cm and the field is directed to the right there. The electric field is zero at x = 0 its magnitude is at a maximum at x = 15 cm and the field is directed to the right there.

Solution

The relation between potential nd electric field is givn by

E = dV/dx , here we re concerned only x-direction as the potentil fucntion is given in x-direction otherwise we consider prtil derivtive.

at x=0 nd x=0 V is flat and dV/dx =0 , hecne E =0

at x= 5 dv/dx is maximum and hecen E is maximum.

at x=15 dv/dx is less than that of at x=5 and E is less

Hence ( a ) is correct.

The potential as a function of position x is shown in the figure. Which statement about the electric field is true? The electric field is zero at x = 0 its mag
