Has the popularity of the Internet and the related adoption
Has the popularity of the Internet and the related adoption of TCP/IP by many organizations and networks helped or hindered the movement towards a single standard protocol such as OSI? Why?
Solution
In today\'s date, TCP/IP is the global protocol for computer networking. So, popularity of the Internet and the related adoption of TCP/IP by many organizations and networks has hindered the movement towards a single standard protocol such as OSI.
TCP/IP model is more reliable as compared to OSI. In fact TCP/IP model is modified and simplified implementation of OSI model. OSI model has 7 layers whereas TCP/IP model has 4 layers, OSI model is complex as compared to TCP/IP. Implementations of OSI model were slow as compared to TCP/IP, model, besides TCP/IP was free.
Due to these advantages of TCP/IP model over OSI model, users prefer TCP/IP model over OSI model.
