You are the manager of the northern branch of the Laurel City bowling alleys. The owner, Jill Espy, has 4 other bowling alleys around town. The average employee assigned to the concession stand of all the Laurel City bowling alleys lasts 3 years. However, in your branch the average employee lasts only 8 months. Jill is concerned about this huge discrepancy and wants to know your explanation for the difference and what you can do to correct the problem. Training new employees is costly to the company and this high turnover is costing her money that could be better spent elsewhere.

You have tried talking with your current concession staff and have learned that pay and scheduling may have some effect on the turnover rate. However, one person indicated that many of them do not know how to handle difficult customers. It made them not want to come to work.

How would you solve this problem?

Solution

initially i will focus on the problems of the employees that may relates to work or pay or anything which relates to my company. i can not go about the things which are beyond to my control.

as per the above discussion i came to know that people are not satisfying with the pay structure. individually i speaks with them and assure them to increase the pay in short period. but I ask them to commitment that atleast what is the minimum period they will be here. and based on it i will be plan. why i focused on payment is, every one is working for survival only right. money is basic requirement for oneself.

later, about the work and customers. who ever it is and what kind of customers they are, we are here to serve them. even they behaves rudely with us, we should control our emotions and all it is part in our work itself. every profession has its own limitations, similarly how we have.

i cant say that the problem can be resolve immediately, but in short period only i can assure that the climate can be expected and estimated.
