A dialysis bag that is impermeable to sucrose is filled with a sucrose solution. The bag is then placed in a beaker of distilled water. Predict whether the weight of the bag will increase or decrease with time, and explain why. Use the information provided in Section 4 of this lab about glycoproteins and glycolipids to explain why a person who has had a kidney transplant must take drugs that suppress the immune system. Be specific in your answer.

The dialysis bag acts as a membrane allowing only water to move across. Outside of the bag has distilled water, which means it moves into the sucrose bag until equilibrium is reached. (pure water flows from a dilute solution through a semi permeable membrane to a higher concentrated solution). This results in increase in weight of the sucrose bag.
