A diving board length L 500 m that weighs 235 N is supporte

A diving board length L = 5.00 m that weighs 235 N is supported by two pillars. One pillar is at the left end of the diving board, as shown below; the other is distance d = 1.50 m away

A) Find the magnitude of the force exerted by the left pillar when a 90.0 kg diver stands at the far end of the board.

B) Find the magnitude of the force exerted by the right pillar when a 90.0 kg diver stands at the far end of the board.

Solution

B) balancing moment (r x F) about left end,

(1.50 x Fr ) + (2.50 x 235) + (5 x 90 x9.81) = 0

Fr = - 3334.6 N

magnitude = 3334.67 N upwards. by right pillar.

A) now balancing force in vertical direction,

FL - Fr - 235 - (90x9.81) = 0

FL -(- 3334.67) - 235 - 882.9 = 0

FL = 2216.77 N downwards by left pillar
